AUDITION NOTICE:

Be a part of the Nutcracker legacy!!

Be a part of our VERY FIRST Nutcracker!  Starting this year Blackfoot School of Ballet will begin doing a community nutcracker.  This year it will be just Act 2 of the nutcracker called the "Land of the Sweets".  In the coming years we hope to build to the full production when we are more supported to do so by the community  This years performance will be in November on the weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday (Nov 21st & 22nd).

Auditions are open to the public. Held Aug 26th & 27th at studio location or at a local school if space is needed.  It is preferred for those wanting to participate as performers to attend one of the audition dates.  If approved by the director a performer may send in an audition video.  This means all practices will be held outside of our traditional class times on the weekends on either Friday or Saturdays with a few Tuesdays.

Auditions are free & the nutcracker performance fees will be collected once cast in a role.   These costs will be TBA once costumes, props and scenery are all priced out over the 2025 summer.

Why the auditions?

Auditions start the process of getting more community involvement from all performers, not just our school.  This will also help prepare my students for the future of our school when we start auditioning for more things like colleges, summer programs & working roles as dancers. Auditioning is a learned skill. This will ease dancers into the process. Teaching them how to take disappointment when they don't always get what they auditioned for.  All things you have to learn when doing a performing art.Why do we have to audition?

  • Auditions lets the director know a dancers commitment by attending the audition, filling out their sizes & noting their schedule conflicts

  • Allows the director the opportunity to give more specific details to the parent/dancer

  • Auditions open an exciting opportunity for the public to be a part of seasonal events.

What will happen at the audition?:

Auditions on Aug 26th & Aug 27th. Exact times will be announced by August 1st. Students will learn a small set of combinations with an audition number and be sized. For character auditioning a short face to face showcasing ability or role game.  If accepted into the cast company, a parent meeting for all details the week for the first practice and on audition acceptance paperwork.

  • Female dancer: Basic leotard, pink tight and bun soft shoe or pointe shoe if required at audition.  Males dancer: dance pant and white shirt

  • Auditioning for a character role: normal attire with a prepared acting or musical excerpt

Do I have to have ballet experience to audition?: No, some roles of course are more technical than others but the cast characters range from age 4 - adult!  Some roles have beginning dance to no dance experience, just performing

**More dates will be clarified at the parent meeting/auditions. Practices will be on Fri/Sat with some Tues.  Practices start the 2nd weekend in September.

Performance location will be at the beautiful Blackfoot Performing Art Center
